With some rare exceptions, or maybe i am going to the wrong clubs, Latin and Jazz are also-rans to Soul in the MC Mod canon, which is a pity cause there is so much great music that has been recorded that just goes under-appreciated. With an intro that sounds like the great Pow Wow slipping into a soulful jazzy Young Holt Trio vibe this 2nd release from independent label Allo records, will have deejays rushing to be the first to get it on the decks for the dancers to lose their shit over. 'King of Diamonds' is so good that this will be all over Mod playlists in 2025 and i dare say will make all the Top releases of 2024 lists once they are published - certainly its right up there on mine .As i say, very much in the mould of the YHT so its an easy sell to any of those dour scowling 'I Hate Jazz' philistines and with its swinging Latin undertones, its dancefloor friendly to the max and i foresee this one selling out very quickly. The flip side is a cover of the standard On Broadway - the original was a cha-cha and this one is no different however with the piano styling over the top, this is nothing like elevator music, this is Big City supper club Jazz cool ala California 1961. Essential release for those who love their mid century Latin/Jazz
I spoke to the label and public sound clips are coming soon but for now head on over to the labels Facebook page where you can hear the track in its entirety and order this most wonderful latinsouljazz banger... You will need to get your finger out though, as this is a limited 300 unit release...
