Taken from the album Dejalo Ir, this is a welcome release on 7" for two banging sides that should bring this Barcelona outfit to a wider and international audience. Although both tracks are in Spanish, the vibe is very much evident and will be loved by those who are down with the soul revival sounds. Top side is fresh and reminds me of stuff like The Sextones, The Bamboos, Tru-tones and the peppier stuff from the Penrose Label but there is definitely a Blaxounds sound carving out its own slice of the soul pie. Vermont's vocal is right on the mark and skips along, perfectly swinging, and you know what, it doesn't really matter if i don't understand the lyric here, i am feeling it. Musically all the elements are there, brass is on point and that guitar is just chopping in all the right places and its just so very right as the winter throws its last gasps at us before Spring comes bounding in. Flip the disc over for 'Qué mas te da' and a slightly more upbeat ditty that just lollops along happy skippy. It lacks a punchy finale but it makes up for it with its cheeky vibe and again this is just so right as the days start to lengthen. For those who want to experience the whole album, you can check that out on the Blaxound Bandcamp Page, available on a limited vinyl release, its one for those sessions where you just want to let Soul music nourish you.
You can pick up a copy of the 7" release from Matasuna Webpage or via their Bandcamp page . The single is released on Friday 24th
